Please Pray for Us!
How often in life have you found yourself asking your church or Christian friends, please pray for us!
One of my aims through this blog has been to avoid being self indulgence by asking prayer for myself or my family. It has not even been the aim to ask for prayer for individuals in particular, whether they be members of Dingwall Baptist Church or friends in the community. There is a place for that but I would usually share such requests elsewhere. However, I have entitled this blog Please Pray for Us! in order to make the point that I believe it is good for us pastors to ask for prayer.
Perhaps we do not do it enough, possibly because it shows weakness, particularly as most of us are men. Perhaps we do not do it enough because we fear our congregations seeing our vulnerabilities. Or perhaps we just don’t think to do it because we see our role as serving the church and community and we don’t want to burden others with our problems. And yet, we can find many examples in the bible where prayer was requested by the likes of Paul and even Jesus.
In 2 Corinthians 1:11, Paul, when his and Timothy’s lives were in peril, says…as you help us by your prayers. In Philippians 1: 19 he says; for I know that through your prayers…what has happened to me will turn out for my deliverance. Jesus often retreated for private prayer but on the night of his arrest he asked his disciples to be with him in prayer yet he found them asleep (Luke 22:45)
So, what’s the problem you may be asking by now? There is not one really but we have entered into that which is described as being one of the most stressful things in life, house buying. We have been more and more convinced in recent months that God would have us buy a house here in Dingwall. There is nothing wrong with the rented accommodation we are in and we are grateful for it. Yet we feel that to buy our own house would consolidate our place in this community and it makes sense in many ways, not least of all financially.
Last week we saw a house which seems to fit our needs, almost perfectly, and is in the right price bracket. Having said that it also makes it a desirable property and has attracted several other interests. On Wednesday however, we placed an offer. And we are waiting!
Please pray for us! That we would be patient in the waiting and above all, that God’s will be done for us in this respect. Thanks for this and we are confident of your prayerful support.
The Prayer of Jabez
(1 Chronicles 4:10)
Jabez cried out to the God of Israel,
“Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain.”
And God granted his request.
